I like the xlb here
This is a great place to go for authentic Shanghainese food. Everything we ordered tasted great. The service was fast and friendly as well.
Shanghaiese cuisine
Everything is just ok!I don't think this could be called shanghai restaurant!
Great food. Authentic shanghai dishes you can find here.
Slow service with ok food. Fairly expensive for what you get. At dinner, I think the kitchen was struggling with cooking for guests and takeout, even though it was 1/3 full in the restaurant.
i love it, nice price, nice food! 赞
Food is consistant. Great place for Shanghai style food in Kerrisdale. You can find free street parking 1 block south.
It is a pretty old location with traditional old style Shanghainese cooking. Food is good but nothing wow. The sour and spicy soup was good like how it was 30 years ago. Prices were fair.
Free street parking one block away. Available for group reservations. Northern Chinese cuisine.
Good food, rude server.I went to this restaurant with my extended family including three generations and the server proceeded to lecture everyone about how the grandchildren should have learned Chinese, in Cantonese. Very disappointing because I used to really enjoy eating here. Come here if you would like to feel badly about yourself. Otherwise, save the trip and go to Peaceful Noodle instead for your XLB.
This is when we are lazy to go anywhere else for Northern style Chinese or dumpling type food. Overall xiao long bao, dumplings, fried roundish rice noodle and noodle soups are good. My children and husband likes the food as well. My mother on the other hand seems to be able to pick and say the food is slightly oily, etc., but it could be the dishes that we usually pick as well. - if you have read my other review, my mom is the real food critic!
disgusting!!!!! cannot even chew the dish!!! never go again!!!for sure not recommend to anyone!! why the restaurant like this can still operate
【A stainless steel sponge in the dish!】 I found a piece of stainless steel sponce right in the dish. This is totally discussting, unsafe and dirty. They claim the chef has the habit of brushing pot after water rainse to be the reason of 【Oily finger prints】 on spoons and cups makes me feel like licking some oily hands.【Egg shell】in the rice considered to be "common" in their eyes. I definitly will avoid this place and recommond everyone even just buy chips from convenient store if you are extremely hungry. 【Stay away from this place and keep yourself safe】I would like to give a zero star but not possible here, another picture of stainless steel sponge attached just in case customers don't know what I am talking about
The Xiaolongbao here is excellent (one of the best in the city, up there with Top Shanghai in Richmond in my opinion), and most of the dim sum dishes I have tried have ranged from average to excellent. I can't speak for any of the other dishes though, but I think it's good dim sum for a decent price.
Food was undercooked and portion was really small. Service was really awful.
Fabulous service and very tasty food. We particularly enjoyed the onion cakes.
Food is consistent but they’re understaffed so service is sketchy. I go for the duck meat/egg yolk rolls and the chicken wanton soup. Prices are average.
soso, not in right taste. much worse than some ress in richmond
An average restaurant, convenient location.
Terrible service, they called us mental when we didn't give them up to 10% tips in mandarin, twice. The service was terrible, food was not that great and also people ignored us when we asked them for water. It's not worth your money. They tried to persuade us two ordering more, which was bs. There are better restaurants, don't go to this one.
Almost got scammed. We ordered crab and lobster, and were told they weighed 3.3lbs and 3.7lbs, respectively. When they showed us the lobster, it looked tiny. Went to the back to verify the scale, the crab weighed 2.7lbs and lobster only 2.2lbs. That's almost $60 they tried to overcharge us. The food was good, but that experience ruined the evening.
Very, very poor service! They start turning off the lights by 8:30pm and rushing us to leave, so they can close @9pm! Then the menu pricing are not all the same. The menu we got compared with the bill is around $2 difference. We asked them why and the serve start shoving all the menus to us and showed us the price change!! But the menu we got did not have the price changed. They didn’t give us the difference or apologize. Most importantly, my husband and I had a tummy ache all night....the food definitely was not clean and fresh!! Hope they close down and not scam and hurt customers again.
I think the XLBs here are the best in the city but everything else is pretty meh.
Great northern China style cooking. Of course they lack fresh food in traditional China compare to southern China for fresh steam seafood. As northern Chinese food, the taste and quality are good. Friendly service always with a smile and proudly serve you.
Some of the worst service I have ever seen. Do not expect to ever be greeted or for to ever get a tea refill without getting up and doing it yourself. They will actually bark at you for not leaving enough tip (not that the lousy service ever warrants a tip). The food is very mediocre in quality. Sizes are quite small and over-priced for the quality you are getting. Avoid this place if at all possible.
Meh. It's fine.
really nice noodles maybe they are made in store? at a fair price , the soup feels clean too , a great experience , three adults eat in with three soup noodle and two dim sum total was $40 before tip, keep in mind this is point grey area , which is a more expensive part of town
Not a fancy place, but food is mostly very nice.
Fast service, good quality Chinese food. Be back again!
Food is OK; nothing to write home about. In fact, the quality has gone down over the years. Only their cold duck dish is still good. The seating is packed as tight as possible. And they are always short of staff. So the service level is below what can be expected in usual Chinese restaurants. Overall, I wouldn't mind going there with family for a casual lunch or supper; but I would make an effort to go there either.
Very poor service though they did only have 3 servers for the whole restaurant. Portions were on the smaller side.
Upscale modernized Chinese food, very fresh, with vegetarian & vegan options. Reasonably priced.
Convenient location for Shanghainese cuisine for those close to UBC and don't want to trek over to Richmond. Prices are above average, service is okay, food is slightly better than okay, but not as good as other restaurants in Richmond.
Fried rice cake and pan fried buns were good. Priced are decent for lunch
Very good chinese resturant. Just a bit oily but is like all Chinese place. Would highly recommend
I tried two dishes..both were too sweet. Service is not very good.
We used to like this restaurant because their good northern style Chinese food at a very affordable price. But a recent visit changed our impression about this restaurant. The food quality is going down hill. Our used to favorite pan fried pork bun become a much smaller size bottom deep fried bun. The $8.50 lunch special stirred fried noodle served as small as a dish of dim sum. It is not a good valued restaurant any more and I will go some where else!
Food is very good. Staff are quite pleasant.
Very tasty Shanghaines food. 5 stars is for the food and value. Nice, quick meal. Nothing fancy. Sliced fatty pork (red and spicy sauce) is especially good.
Way below average food compared to other places serving similar dishes.
XLB is good. Other things not so much. Especially when the server demanded us to order in Chinese because “the system only works in Chinese”. Are you serious?
Food was ok as was the service. The pan fried buns seem to be fresh made as when when they first arrived, the center top point dough seemed still raw. We sent this dish back and they remade the dish and second time was a little better, but still a small amount of raw dough.Fkavour was decent though. The orange peel beef dish was tasty and crispy, but the way they achieve there crispiness is just good when fresh. We couldn't finish this dish and reheating this dish next day, the coating was a soggy powdery mess. The mu-shu pork tasted ok. Flavour was nothing special. You get a decent portion for this dish but the wrappings seemed a little thicker than I expected.Overall, not a bad experience and I would try them again if craving Shanghai food in Kerrisdale.
The restaurant looks dated with many chairs showing signs of wear and tear and the four is just so so. It used to be better run but my visit with friends this time disappoints me.
Surprisingly good cooking, in old school Cantonese style.
once again all the eight dishes were well presented and tasted great.
It is pricey by comparing to the food quality. Service is so so.
Change of ownership meant lot smaller portions and quality went down.
The soup dumpling and gyoza were very juicy. But most of the food was greasy. The portions were very small and it was very expensive.
Quality OK for Szechuan style Chinese food.
